There are several image editing programs with a similar set of features. The following guidelines will help people work in most applications available for personal use and clipping path service.

Why Keep the Original Intact

Do not edit original photos. Create and save a copy in a layered file format because then it is possible to adjust and edit layers one at a time. The best formats are TIFF and PSD. Every popular editing application will Export or Save As to either of these formats.

Consider saving photos as JPG files because these works will then be compressed. This way, the user can accommodate programs that have limited resources, like for instance, an email application. Each time it is saved again, the photo quality will degrade slightly, plus it will not support the use of layers in editing.

The other formats, like BMP, EPHS, PHG and GIF are unsuitable for editing.

Resize Images without Losing Quality

Making photos smaller is not an issue. Resizing up, or making photos bigger, will ruin everything. When trying to resize up, the pixels will explode and will make blurry halos around all the things. This is known as pixilation or image compression noise.

To avoid pixilation, do not enlarge without tweaking the pixels of the image to make amends. For instance, if it is a 4 by 5 inch photograph with a 600 PPI resolution, reducing its pixel density to 300 will enlarge it to 8 by 10 without losing quality.

A beginner to photo editing profession or standard user must distinguish resizing from the ‘resampling’ feature in Photoshop. In the above-mentioned example, the number of image pixels will not change, so the quality will remain intact. Resampling will add more pixels or subtract pixels to change the picture. Unfortunately, this process is imprecise, which is the reason why Photoshop gives resampling options namely ‘Nearest Neighbor’, ‘Bilinear’ and ‘Bicubic’. The user has no right way to do this process. They can only experiment and then save the finest possible outputs.

How to Get Rid of Busy Backdrops

It is always tricky to edit out unwanted photo backdrop. Professionals use Photoshop’s Polygonal Lasso to choose the thing in the image’s foreground, invert it to make its backdrop the active editing layer and press Delete on the keyboard. Alternatively, they cut the image and paste it onto a fresh layer, and then select a filter, or special effect like Gaussian Blur to fill its backdrop.
